Arthur Senanayake received his education at Mahinda College, Galle, Sri Lanka and then proceeded to Europe with a view of gaining experience in various fields and industries. A 15-year stint in Europe / America was both a learning and growth experience for the young man. He specialized in CNC Machinery sales and servicing for Traub of Germany. He also got the opportunity to travel all over the globe providing consultancy services and training of personnel in the use of these highly sophisticated machines. He was then posted to Australia by Traub as the regional Engineer for South and South East Asia.
In 1980, with the Sri Lankan economic climate becoming conducive to new investments and venture, he returned to Sri Lanka, bringing with him not only a vision but also a plethora of innovative ideas, knowledge and experience which made him one of the movers of the countries development machinery. Arthur Senanayake stays abreast of changes and improvements in modern technology, management trends, financial developments etc. Towards this end he takes the time from his busy schedule to attend workshops, seminars and conferences both local and international which continuously expose him to new and changing ideas. He also contributes in his capacity to many management seminars for the uplifting and improving of business and economic standards in the country.
It all began with a company called Germania, his first local venture, supplying raw materials, fertilizers and agro-chemicals. Today Arthur Senanayake is at the helm of a diversified group of companies consisting of 21 companies and providing employment for approximately 1000 persons in various fields. The group is proud of its alliances and franchises with Principals from U.S.A., UK, Germany, Switzerland, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, and China.
On a more personal note, Arthur Senanayake is a dedicated family man. He is supported by his wife, Edna, in all his efforts. He is the proud father of two daughters. Sadly his only Son passed away in 2012, having been infected with the deadly dengue virus.
The success of IWS Holdings continues as Mr Senanayake’s two daughters enter the business arena, bringing a fresh outlook and dynamism to the family business.
